I ride this as a short distance commuter bike (4 miles a day and some weekend fun), so the fenders, rear bike rack, and chain guard were my main requirements to protect my work clothes. I find this a comfortable and easy ride with no major issues.I've had several people compliment the bike and in my opinion this *looks* just as smart as several similar bikes from other brands that start at $400. At the time of my purchase there were 2 color options for this bike and the price points were between $160-$190 making this a fantastic value. After a week of riding, I had to tighten a few items - mostly front handlebars and front brakes (things that I had assembled, so not a fault at Schwinn). After three weeks of riding I'm going to tweak the gears a bit; I have been riding them as they were out of the box and they're about 95% right. The instructions... It has a lightweight steel frame that features beautiful welds and a nice paint job. Handlebars and quill stem are high quality items. V-brakes are excellent, but of lower quality, as is the rear derailleur. Chrome fenders and rear spring-loaded rack are decent quality and attractive. The saddle is closer to a size needed by a 12 yr old vs. an adult. The bike's geometry is a bit of a puzzle. I am 5'11 and have a 30" inseam and I can barely stand over it flatfooted. Yet the top tube is very short - similar to a 53 or 54cm bike - which would be appropriate for a 5'6"-5'-9" rider. So it demands a very upright riding position for anyone that is over 5'10" and I would expect it to feel very small for anyone 6'1" or taller. The other head-scratcher is the gearing range. As a 7 speed, I would expect to use one of the middle gears (3/4/5) when riding on a flat, smooth road. Not so - on my first... I then check my browser history and my kitchen trash can and noted that I drank a lot of beer and then went online and ordered a bike. After re-reviewing this product description online, I saw that the bike was exactly as described. And WHAT a bike it is! I am 6 foot and fit comfortably on it. I still haven't quite gotten the brakes to align properly, but that might be because I have never set up brakes before. A hats off to this wayfare hybrid bike purchase! |
