4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic value, but with flaws, July 30, 2015

I've owned dozens of bikes and ridden my whole life (I'm 40 years old). I know a few things about bikes, and purchased this one as a daily rider that I wouldn't be devastated if it were stolen. Here are some initial impressions that may help other buyers:

--This bike is a fantastic value (as the headline says) and if you are willing to tune it and upgrade it in a couple of ways, and bear with a few of its inherent flaws, the bang for the buck can hardly be beat.

--Pros: Outstanding brakes (can lock the wheels at any speed with moderate pressure). Surprisingly refined paint job--no stickers (except on the wheels, which can be easily removed). Light weight (unless you're willing to pay 600+, which you probably aren't if you're looking at this bike). Fantastic wheels and tires, though note that they're quite thin. Gearshifters are precise and have an easy movement. The front crank is sleeker and more attractive than it appears in the pictures. Fit and finish... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Bike for the Money, June 25, 2015

I wanted a bike for riding with my kids on the weekends. I checked out some of the cheaper bikes, but I wanted something better. But I did not want to spend 400 or more in the bike store. This bike arrived well packed; the Schwinn box was inside another box, so it was well protected.
The bike inside was in perfect condition. There was minimal assembly required. I had to attach the handlebars, pedals, and front wheel, and inflate the tires. It was all pretty basic but can look a bit overwhelming at first. There were many wire ties to cut, and a lot of packing materials to dispose of.

My first impression was that everything was of a high quality. I have not purchased an adult bike for a while, but all these parts look nice and definitely a step up from the lower priced bikes I would imagine. The wheels are really nice with an unusual spoke pattern.

My first ride in the park with the kids went fine. The bike rides nice and the gears shift well. The... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Rode the Hotter than Hell 100 mile race in 7 hours and 22 minutes on this Schwinn, June 17, 2015

I first laid eyes on the package at 7:15 PM (on the day it was promised to arrive) and at 7:40 PM I was silently shifting through the gears on this bike putting 5 miles of initial test mileage on it. Wheels are perfectly true, the gears are flawless (The front derailleur required a minor adjustment) and the bike rides like what I assume a road bike should. I'll be honest, this is my first road bike and the other bike I've been riding is a hybrid. I'm so far very pleased with this seller and with this bike. Basically, all I had to do was unpack the bike, put the front wheel on, put the handlebar on, put the pedals on the crank, air up the tires, tighten up the handlebar reflector and the seat post reflector, install the seat and ride the bike. I'm 5'10 1/2" tall and I have lots of seat post left. The straight bar is comfortable so far, although I haven't ridden but about 5 miles on the bike. I plan to keep this comment updated as I ride more. So far, though, it's been $250 well... Read more
