It looks like the left fork is the one that is bent. The box was undamaged (no holes or tears). The fork assembly is very sturdy, so it must have had a very heavy weight placed on the package at some point in its travel from China to my house. A cheap plastic spacer between the wheel dropouts would have prevented this particular damage. Now that the bicycle is completely unpacked, it will be very difficult to repack it and return it to Amazon. I called the Schwinn service number, got right through to a very helpful person at Pacific Cycle (parent company of Schwinn), and was told that they would send a replacement fork immediately, but after a few minutes told that they did not have one in stock after all because this is a new model. They are supposed to let me know in a few days when they expect to have... I searched for days and days for a hybrid with front shocks, 21 speed, and disc breaks for less than $400. I almost gave up until I came across this guy! Fantastic bike, others have griped about the wheel paint, I think it's fine. The seat is very comfortable, front shocks eliminate the bumps well, its gears shift smooth and the tires are a perfect balance between road and dirt. My ONLY TWO ISSUES were during assembly: 1. One of the factory handlebar clamp allen wrench bolts was very hard to loosen/tighten like is was misthreaded. 2. Pay very CLOSE attention to the back break caliper, mine from the factory flexed (while the level was pulled) the break disc over to one side by like a 1/2", thats a huge flex on the disc! I adjusted the caliper over with a metric allen wrench so that it perfectly applies pressure to the disk. I will say the back break isn't as forceful... This bike is poorly built with very weak components. The rims had no rim strips and huge metal burrs leading to blowouts almost immediately. The rear derailler, gearset and stem have had to be replaced already because they are crap and failed quickly. The pedals are next to be changed as they are failing now. |
